War Column (February 5, 2003-March 2, 2008)
1,484 days of US military involvement in Iraq---as witnessed in the NY Times, through my drawing hand.
This piece took shape during a residency at the American Academy in Rome, and is dedicated to Art Historian Richard Brilliant.
Brilliant's study of Trajan's Column--as a multi-layered, experiential mnemonic device full of cinematic qualities and abrupt transitions--had a profound effect on my thinking while working on this project, and has had a deep influence on subsequent work.
