Scuffle
Scuffle. (2021).
The scroll format is an invitation to experience a work through one’s body, and is central to much of my drawing-based work. Scuffle can be considered a walking compilation of animation cells—despite the fact that the final order here was arrived at through intuitive process, rather than any preconceived narrative. I think of Scuffle as a collision between calligraphic cartoon language and drawing directly from the vicissitudes of our tumultuous national flatscreen—in this case, throughout the 2020/2021 CoVid lockdown. At present (2025) I am at work on an animated version of this piece.
